SmartBilge+ Autoclean installation guide

Detailed guidance on installing an Auto-Clean system to your SmartBilge+ oil content meter.

Introduction

The autoclean option for the SmartBilge+ is a pneumatic autoclean plunger with wiper blade, designed to ensure that the measuring cell glass tube is kept free from fouling. This option replaces the manual clean system on the monitor and its automated process removes the need for an operator to clean the cell.

For this system to function the autoclean will require a constant 6 bar air supply.

It is assumed that the installer will ensure that he will isolate power when carrying out the installation and will not work on live equipment.

Installation kit

The installation kit for the SMartBilge+ autoclean comes in three configurations:

SmartBilge+ 24VAC Autoclean hardware kit – Rivertrace Part No: 110226
SmartBilge+ 115VAC Autoclean hardware kit – Rivertrace Part No: 110225
SmartBilge+ 230VAC Autoclean hardware kit – Rivertrace Part No: 110224

Each assembly consists of a solenoid assembly of the appropriate voltage and an actuator assembly.

110222 AUTOCLEAN 24VAC SOLENOID ASSEMBLY Solenoid assembly
110221  AUTOCLEAN 115VAC SOLENOID ASSEMBLY
110220 AUTOCLEAN 230VAC SOLENOID ASSEMBLY
110223  AUTOCLEAN ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY                     Autoclean actuator

Instructions

Preparing the SmartBilge+

Cut all water from the monitor to ensure the measuring cell is empty.

Remove the manual clean assembly from SmartBilge+ from the cell by unscrewing it using the knurled section. This can be stored as a spare.

Installing the solenoid

To secure the solenoid to the SmartBilge+, the two M4 screws and washers must be removed from the bracket above the PCB module. The two holes on the solenoid bracket can then be lined up with the now empty holes and the fasteners reattached.

Installing the solenoid

Remove front cover from microcontroller module using a small Philips screwdriver then remove the clear protective cover within the enclosure using a small flat bladed screwdriver.

The cable from the solenoid must be inserted through the gland on the underside into the enclosure.

Solenoid cabling

Internally the solenoid cable must be connected to the Auto-Clean header CON2 according to the image below.

Installing the actuator

locate the round wiper blade on the actuator into the top of the Smart-Cell and press down until the threaded part engages. Continue to screw the actuator into the cell until tight ad the pneumatic fitting is pointing towards the solenoid.

Use the supplied pneumatic hosing to attach the two assemblies together, this may have to be cut down.

Attach the 4 bar air supply to the solenoid valve via the spare elbowed pneumatic fitting.

Enabling the Autoclean

After installation of the auto clean the power needs to be restored to the monitor.

The autoclean will now need to be enabled using your unique SmartBilge+ activation PIN. Please contact sales@rivertrace.com to obtain the PIN. This will be specific to your PCB serial number so please ensure that this is included with your enquiry.

Setting up the Autoclean

With the autoclean enabled select "AUTOCLEAN"  from the SmartBilge+ main menu. You can adjust the number of operations and time intervals between cleans within the sub menus.

Maintenance

It is recommended that the wiper on the autoclean is replaced every 6 months to maintain performance and to prevent damage to the cell. this can be purchased as a spare quoting part number 109039.
